The last handful of years February in Juneau, Alaska has been anything but ordinary. With warmer temperatures and hardly any snow, it makes for some great photo opportunities! For this shoot the goal was to showcase Overlooked Gems and WWKnits, both handcrafted here in Juneau.
is the newest addition to the Resolute Family, handmade and crafted to show how even the most common gems, or shells, can be made into something extraordinary. Cassidy, the designer has always had a love affair with shell jewelry, spending years making jewelry with Hawaiian shells, she decided to turn her attention to mussel shells after moving to Alaska in 2016. Mussel shells being the most overlooked shell on the block! And we're glad she did! She pairs them with beads and sterling silver for a one-of-a-kind look. See more jewelry.
is another highly sought after line that's based here in Juneau. Born and raised in Ketchikan, Willow has created the perfect beanie for those living in a temperate climate with weather always in mind. She uses her own patterns that are tried and true, even going so far as to hand dye some of her styles! WWKnits uses some of the highest quality yarn to ensure not only the best looks, but the most practical and long lasting. The best part about WWKnits and the Resolute, is that we have custom colors hand picked by Cordova and Willow! See more beanies.
Sydney is one of my all time favorite photographers in the Juneau area and she has made quite the name for herself with her unique style. I can pick out her photos in a lineup any day! Which is why I call on her goodness any chance I get, and when she can squeeze me into her busy schedule!
Welcoming this shoot's featured model, Nina Tonsgard! Nina is 21 years old and born and raised right here in Juneau, Alaska. Right now she is a Primary Dental Health Aide working in public health. Nina hopes to attend college to become a Pediatric Dentist.
took place at a secret location, but in the background you'll see old warehouse walls, and old mining equipment. Most of Alaska was found on the glory of Gold, and this area is no exception! From 1880 to 1940 Juneau hosted the world's three largest mines, producing over $158 million during that time (when gold was priced at $25/ounce versus today at $1500!). The area is littered with gold mining equipment to say the least! Which makes for unimaginable stories and great photo opportunities!
