What happened there, stays there. Well, for the most part haha. Although I would love to share a little of what we did and where we stayed! The Eagle Valley Center is a beautiful property run by the City's Parks & Recreation Department. And, I could not be happier that it's available to rent out!
Located near the old ghost town of Amalga, the lodge is situated perfectly in a field with nearby beach access on roughly 500 acres. Featuring 11 beds, fully equipped kitchen, and the coziest living room. With plans to redo the original Horse Tram Trail, and build a small Public Use cabin in a secluded cove off of the main beach, this may be my new favorite spot!
The idea behind the retreat in the first place was to help the City promote this space as they're working to expand on the property and spread the word that it is available for public use and rent. So the mission quickly became; invite a bunch of gorgeous ladies and explore the area in style while being pampered and loved. Mission accomplished. We met up at 11 for coffee in the spacious living room, then put our outdoor gear on and headed for Eagle Landing. Once there we explored both ends of the cove, took photos, brought snacks and a bottle or two of wine to help keep us warm. We returned a little after 1 for our flower crown workshop where we learned the basics and created crowns. At this time Shauna from Salon Edge came and styled our hair, also giving a tutorial on braiding hair with a makeup brush and a hair tie! We snacked on an epic cheese board and drank more wine. The group split, some staying home, others back out to the beach. Rendezvousing back in the kitchen for homemade pizza, movies, nail painting and conversation, we all let the day come to a sweet end. The following morning we enjoyed freshly brewed coffee from Gonzo and homemade waffles from my Great Grandmother's recipe book! Reflecting on our time, the photos taken, the face masks and Joah Brown apparel that was given, we parted ways. It was awesome, and really fun to be a part of!
A Little History
In the early 1900's prospectors began moving outside of the downtown Juneau area in search of new claims. When gold veins were found in a creek, it wasn't long before Bart Thane was solicited as a superintendent to help establish a 10-stamp mill. And, just like that, the town of Amalga was born. Existing from 1902-1915, this little town produced nearly half a million in gold and silver. During this time several structures were built to accommodate the newly established town, including a blacksmith, lumber mill/machine shop, and more. The Horse Tram trail was designed to pull loads in carts from the once-a-week steamship delivery at Eagle Landing into the mining area roughly seven miles away. Today, remanence and some structures can still be found, although they're quickly disappearing into the forest!
About the Eagle Valley Center
Kayak Beach - a great little cove for watching the sunrise and sunset. There is a patch of black super fine sand.
Eagle Landing Beach - A fantastic beach for fires and exploring. This hidden gem gets great sunlight and warms up with the black rocks. Great for exploring both sides of the rocky points.
As for our time at the EVC, we enjoyed several walks to the beach, lounging in the spacious living area, utilizing the conference area, and cooking up delicious treats in the kitchen. I was especially grateful for the layout and functionality of the lodge. There is a large cold storage space off of the kitchen, a deck, and comfortable rooms each with their own bathroom and vanity. I don't think any of us wanted to leave haha. We made it our home from the moment we walked in, hauling our house in our car and up the stairs. I think most of us had at least two trips between the car and our rooms haha.

Overall, our goal of relaxing, exploring, doing something different, and meeting babes from all over who also love a little self love, was accomplished. Even for me, putting the event on (with the incredible help of my cousin, Emily) was still a very relaxing and rewarding experience. Perhaps the snacks and wine had something to do with that haha.
